Company description:
In the same way that Montessori represents an entirely different approach to education, Aqua-Evolution represents a whole new way of looking at swim lessons. The most important discovery that Dr. Montessori has contributed to the field of child development and education is the fostering of the best in each child. Our children are placed in individual or group classes according to where they are at right now, and they progress in their swimming classes as they learn more at their own unique pace.
All of our children learn the same things - they just learn them at levels appropriate to their age and their unique ability. Co-ordination and stamina for a preschooler are vastly different to that of a school age child, and for that very reason, attempting to teach a child to master front crawl or back stroke before the age of 5 is often pointless and in some cases, even dangerous.
Our program is based entirely on a child's ability to survive in water - beginning with a survival float, sudden immersion return, deep water training, survival strokes, and preparation for dealing with New Zealand's natural waterways and environments.
We utilise 'learning perspectives', a philosophy of psychology based on the proposition that all things which organisms do - including acting, thinking and feeling - can and should be regarded as behaviors. Conditional reflexes in young children allow us to train a young child much faster than a traditional water-play swim school in self-rescue techniques by manipulating their water experiences.
We teach ages 12 months to adult, and encourage families and recent migrants to New Zealand to learn to swim in safe controlled environments before progressing our clients into recreational water activities appropriate for their age and fitness levels.
While we are a relaxed employer, we maintain strict adherence to codes of conduct and policies that protect our staff and clients, and we expect staff to acknowledge and adhere to those protection measures at all times. Applicants are expected to have a current first aid certificate, but this can be arranged by the employer at no cost to a successful applicant - the administration of emergency oxygen will be taught and refreshed on a regular basis at the employer's cost.
Please contact the office by email to obtain an application form. Receipt of an application form and any subsequent interview is not an offer of employment. Applicants will be subject to reference checks, and police check for fitness to work with children, prior to any offer of employment. Application forms should be returned to the office by email, and an interview time will be arranged by the Manager. All questions can be directed to Jan Eustace in the first instance on +64 27 351 1764.
