Company description:
The Family Education Network (FeN) exists to support families. The Postponing Sexual Involvement (PSI) programme comes under the umbrella of FeN, and has been operating for 12 years in NZ. PSI promotes attitudes and skills that young teenagers can use until they gain more mature skills to manage their sexuality. It is designed to give them the
tools they need to help them bridge the gap between their physical and cognitive development.
The programme is presented in schools by trained peer presetners to year 9 or year 10 students over a period of four, 50-60 minute sessions. It allows them to think about, discuss and practice using information that will be helpful to them in resisting pressure. The skills they learn are also transferable to other negative health behaviours.
PSI enhances student’s sexual health education by delivering messages through peer facilitators that encourage them to think and wait before getting sexually involved in relationships.
