Company description:

Teaching English to Adult Students:
Well, the first thing everybody wants to know- where is it? There's good news and bad news- it's not in Seoul. It's in a city called Cheongju. The good news is that there a very few traffic jams, a 5 WALK to work, a generally laid-back atmosphere and it is central to most places in Korea because we are in the centre of Korea! The bad news is that most people want to work in Seoul. I have been working at the school for three years now and have just signed on for another year. It's a great place to work. I guess what really makes it great is the team we work with, which is vital to our success. We have a nice mix of cultures working at the school, including a Canadian, 2 Americans, 2 Kiwis, 3 Aussies, 2 Japanese and a Chinese teacher, plus many many Korean teachers! Our school is the biggest adult hagwan(institute) in Cheongju and we are expanding. We teach conversation classes which means a little focus on grammar and a big focus on communication ability. We do use text books but the teacher also has a lot of freedom to make things more interesting or relevant in the classroom. Imagination is important! We get quite a mix of students, ranging from university students to housewives to company managers, so you will have the chance to meet many interesting people. If you are the social type you will make many friends and learn about Korean culture from many different perspectives. The job is quite well paid compared with other schools, and there is a lot of overtime work available, should you want it. Our school is situated near the national university, but on the quiet side. Take a five minute walk and you could be in the heart of Cheongju's night-life if you need some excitement. The hours we work are not to everyone's taste, but personally I like them because it gets me out of bed and leaves me free for the day when everybody else is working!
So basically, this is a pretty good job. There are some downsides, but I think that they are minimal compared to the upsides. Good team, good salary, good students- good times!
