Environmental Manager (mining exp)
 

Contract senior level single status position in the mining sector in a remote area of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

PLEASE NOTE: Regrettably, we are unable to consider candidates who do not have prior mining industry experience. (This is a crucial requirement and NOT negotiable).

• Salary up to USD150K p.a (Nett), depending on skills and experience
• Single status position
• Six day working week
• Benefits: Bonus potential of 20%; Travel allowance (US$12-15K tax free); Vehicle, accommodation and meals provided; 84days annual leave (total days off site); Medical; Group Benefits Scheme.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

• Tertiary qualifications in Science, Environmental Management or a related discipline
• ISO1400 training will be ideal
• Significant experience with the implementation and management of environmental programs.
• Experience with environmental and communities aspects of mining and exploration is highly desirable
• Minimum of 10 years experience in environment field, preferably in the minerals processing or mining industry
• Experience in regulatory and major project development is desirable.
• Expert knowledge and understanding and application of legislative and regulatory framework.
• Experience with the implementation of a risk management process.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

• Previous experience in Africa in a similar role
• Theory and technical abilities plus lots of practice of driving and driving improvement plans essential
• French speaking an advantage but not essential.
• Ensure the Company’s Environmental Management System (EMS) is established and is given high priority and a certification process and internal audit program are proactively managed.
• Manage the development of internal standards and guidelines and liaise closely with key stakeholders to ensure awareness, participation and compliance with the standards & operational guidelines.
• Ensure the development of systems and processes to collect and record environmental baseline data
• Provide leadership, direction and support to the environmental team.
• Manage the establishment of internal approval systems and ensure they are project specific while remaining consistency with company's standards.
• Ensure training in environmental awareness and procedures to all staff and contractors where appropriate
• Implement the required ISO standards and systems, EMS, audit and accreditation process.
• Develop and implement an extensive monitoring program
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with mine personnel and external bodies
• Ensure site compliance with legal obligations and company's and IFC standards
• Ensure rehabilitation works and propagation trial plans are in place and operational
• Provide monthly and annual environmental reporting and accurate and timely advice on environmental matters
• Deliver operational environmental improvements
